Welcome to the official "Red Venom" build website. My name is Randy Pflanzer and I am building a Lone Star Classics LS427 Roadster "Cobra" kit car. I invite you to follow along as I walk you through all the steps from ordering the kit through finishing. Current Status
As of 07/25/10, the roll bar has been installed. I hope you find the content here entertaining, perhaps even valuable. It should be an interesting journey since I am not much of a gear head or car buff. I am fairly mechanically inclined and pretty good with my hands. In the past 20 years, I have built and flown three airplanes from kits, and I even managed to get my last airplane, pictured below, on the cover of a magazine and featured in some advertising. If you'd like to see my aviation website, you can click on Internet Resources to find the link to my last project. Since childhood, I have always dreamed of owning a Cobra. Since the originals typically sell at auction from $500,000 to over $ 1 Million, the only alternative for me is to build my own. There are many, many other people just like me who fulfilled their dream by building a kit version of Carroll Shelby's creation so it is not as far fetched as it may sound. So if you're anything like me and have always wanted a Cobra but weren't sure you had the skill to put one together, then this site is for you. We'll learn together. Along the way, I plan to document the key decision points, build sequence, parts lists, etc. That way future builders of the Lone Star kit can at least benefit from my research and lessons learned. Nearly all the information that I've gathered has come from other builders of this kit who have generously shared their experiences via the Lone Star Builders Forum. They are a great bunch of fellow enthusiasts and I am deeply indebted to them for their help. Thanks guys.
A quick summary of how this site is organized. First, the site map is on the left. This will take you to specific areas of interest. At the top, just below the heading banner, is the navigation bar. You can always use this to get back to the top if you get lost. On the right are entries to tell you what has recently changed on this site and when. The bottom of each page will have a previous and next button which will walk you through the site from front to back in sequence, or will walk you through a specific section from front to back. Also at the bottom you'll find an inspirational saying that I like and think is valuable. I love these little tidbits and I try to put a different one on every page. Finally a word about copyrights. All the material on my site is copyrighted. If you want to use it for your own use, go ahead. If you plan to stick it somewhere on the Internet for others to use, or you plan to distribute the material in any way, I would appreciate it if you would ask for my permission before doing so. I will usually grant my permission provided I am credited as the author. With all that, it is time to get to work building my dream machine. |
